We all need to quiet ourselves from outside distractions and prayer can help; therefore, we are doing this series. The prayer we used to open with helps quiet the mind and place the concerns and burdens of the day. Lighting a candle for prayer is a ‘resource’ of how to pray. That is why you all were given candles to take home. Father Julio talked about having a Mantra, how we are more than our sins. He spoke about how we need to get rid of our agendas more, and get ourselves out of our own sins. Also, we touched on how to let God desire you. I really enjoyed his talk and I hope you did also! Topic One video was on the introduction to mediation, the way of silence. This video touched on the distinction between contemplation and mediation, the discursive, rational, thinking mind and the higher, intuitive, contemplative mind, interior silence and the “silent mind”, “kinds” of silence, and the practice of silence and quieting the mental mind. In the video the key things that stood out to me was how he spoke about the absent of sound, getting rid of sound, and much is within us when you quiet the mind, you will discover a great deal with fruits. Learning to just be, and letting God work in us by just sitting there for just five minutes can be powerful. The frame of mind needed for contemplative or meditative practice, would have to be a quiet of the mind, getting rid of all exterior sounds and looking inward for peace. The space needed to create for meditative space, can easily be a bedroom or living room, just don’t lie down in your bed. How much do you value “interior silence.” My assignment for you is taking at least ten minutes tonight to practice sitting still.
